Wayne Johnson, PA-C earned his Masters of Physician Assistant Studies from the University of Nebraska Medical Center where he graduated in 2005. Through the University of Nebraska, Wayne entered the Interservice Physician Assistant Program in Fort Sam Houston, TX the following year.
Wayne joins VHC Physician Group – Colorectal Surgery with years of surgical experience. In 2012, he completed an 18-month post-graduate fellowship in General Surgery at the Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu, HI. After his fellowship, Wayne worked as a surgical physician assistant for general surgery and colorectal services in Hawaii for two years, before moving to Fort Belvoir, Virginia. In Virginia, Wayne served as Assistant Chief of General Surgery Services at Fort Belvoir Community Hospital from 2014 to 2017, where he acted as first assistant in the operating room for open, laparoscopic, and robotic procedures across a number of specialties.
Wayne emphasizes the importance of communication in his approach to patient care, and strives to meet the patient’s needs while also ensuring a safe standard of care. He has a particular clinical interest in colon cancer, complex pelvic floor disorders, chronic constipation, and anorectal disease. He is a member of a number of medical societies, including the American Academy of Physician Assistants (AAPA), the American Association of Surgical Physician Assistants (AASPA), and the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES).
Originally from Victorville, CA, Wayne moved to the Northern Virginia area in 2014 with his wife and two children. Wayne is a retired Military Medical Officer, with more than 22 years of service to the United States Army. Outside of work, Wayne enjoys watching sports, and playing golf and soccer.
