The Palliative Care Service at Virginia Hospital Center began in 2004 as the first hospital-based palliative care program in Northern Virginia. Palliative Care is dedicated to relieving suffering and improving quality of life for patients with severe illnesses. Palliative Care supports patients throughout all stages of their illness and treatment. We offer expertise in treating symptoms such as fatigue, breathing difficulty, and anxiety. In addition to treating distressing physical symptoms, our interdisciplinary team, made up of nurses, social workers, and chaplains, addresses the psychosocial and spiritual needs of patients and their families.
We know that it is important for you to better understand your diagnosis and choices for care. By choosing Palliative Care, you can still receive curative treatments and continue to work with your primary doctor.
