Preparation for Appointments

Partial Preparation for New Patients and Office Procedures

Insert 1 fleet enema into your rectum and hold it in for 5 minutes (or as close to that as possible).

 

Full Preparation for Office Procedures

Morning Appointments

  1. Normal lunch on the day before your appt.
  2. After lunch, no solid food until appointment in the office.
  3. You may drink any liquid except milk.
  4. Five hours after lunch, take six (6) tablespoons (90cc) of milk of magnesia.
  5. Before bed, the night before your exam, insert an adult Fleet enema (green box) into your rectum and hold it for five (5) minutes.
  6. Repeat enema before coming to the office for your procedure.

Afternoon Appointments

  1. Light dinner on the night before your appt.
  2. After dinner, no solid food until appointment in the office.
  3. You may drink any liquid except milk.
  4. First thing the morning of your exam, insert an adult Fleet enema (green box) and hold it for five (5) minutes. Also, take 6 tbsp of milk of magnesia.
  5. Repeat enema before coming to the office for your procedure.

Bowel Prep for Colonoscopy or Surgery

The following instructions are made to help you prepare your bowel for your procedure. Do not take Aspirin, Alka-Seltzer, Plavix, Vitamin E oil, Fish oil, or NSAIDS( example: Motrin, Ibuprofen, Advil, Celebrex, Naproxen) for 10 days prior to your procedure!!

  • It is necessary to have a clear liquid diet. You should start clear liquids on the day preceding your procedure. Please drink any of the following in any amounts that you wish (example: apple juice, Gatorade, water, clear chicken or beef broth-no noodles! 7-up, sprite, ginger-ale, tea, and jello). No milk or milk products, no coffee creamer either, as well as nothing with red food coloring or red dyes.
  • Please take the following as directed: 10:00 AM-take 4 tablets Dulcolax; 2:00 PM-drink 1 bottle of Magnesium Citrate; 7:00 PM-drink additional bottle of Magnesium Citrate. All can be bought over the counter.
  • After midnight, you should NOT have anything to eat or drink. You should be fasting until your procedure is completed and the doctor gives you the OK to begin eating again.
  • 1-2 hours before coming to the hospital for your procedure, use 1 adult fleet enema.
