Dr. Victoria Lai grew up in New York. After receiving a Bachelor of Arts in History from Yale (New Haven, CT), she earned a Medical Degree with Distinction in Research and a Dean’s Recognition Award from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine (Bronx, NY).
Dr. Lai completed a General Surgery residency at Albert Einstein/Montefiore Medical Center (Bronx, NY), serving as the Administrative Chief Resident in her final year. She went on to receive advanced training, completing an Endocrine Surgery fellowship at the Medical College of Wisconsin (Milwaukee, WI). Her fellowship focused on disorders of endocrine neoplasia (thyroid, parathyroid, adrenal and neuroendocrine), managed with a multidisciplinary approach. She was involved in outcomes research and has publications in endocrine surgery.
Dr. Lai then joined the Virginia Hospital Center Physician Group with Surgical Specialists. An Assistant Professor of Clinical Surgery with Georgetown University, she is actively involved in the education and training of Georgetown medical students and general surgery residents. She received Board Certification in Surgery from the American Board of Surgery, and is a member of various surgical societies, including the American College of Surgeons, the American Association of Endocrine Surgeons, and the Association of Women Surgeons.
Dr. Lai’s primary interest is in endocrine surgery (benign and malignant disorders of the thyroid gland, parathyroid gland, adrenal gland, and neuroendocrine tumors), with an emphasis on personalized care that is supported by the most recent scientific literature. She also cares for patients with general surgery conditions, performing surgery for the appendix, gallbladder, hernias, skin and soft tissue, and the GI tract.
“Every patient is treated as an individual,” says Dr. Lai. “I try to bridge the gaps between medicine and patients. I have a desire to provide guidance in a patient’s journey with her condition, working in conjunction with other members of a patient’s health care team, from primary care providers to endocrinologists and other specialists.”
Dr. Lai likes to read, run, hike, cook, spend time with family and friends, and learn something new or in greater depth.
