John R. Garrett, MD, has been a member of Virginia Hospital Center’s Medical Staff since 1989. After completing an Internship, Residency and Chief Residency in General Surgery at the University of Alabama Hospitals and Clinics in Birmingham, Alabama, Dr. Garrett completed his Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery Residency at the Texas Heart Institute in Houston, Texas. Dr. Garrett has past faculty appointments at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston, Auburn University, and Georgetown University Medical Center.
In addition to being Chairman of the Board of Directors, Dr. Garrett is former Chairman, Department of Surgery, Virginia Hospital Center, and a former member of the Medical Executive Committee. He has also been a member of the Arlington Health Foundation Board of Directors and the Columbia Arlington Healthcare System, LLC Board of Governors. Dr. Garrett is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and a member of the Cooley Hands Society, the Denton A. Cooley Cardiovascular Surgical Society, the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, and the Arlington County Medical Society.
Pamela J. Kane, FACHE, CMPE
Executive Vice President and Executive Officer, Physician Services
Prior to joining Virginia Hospital Center in October 2014, Ms. Kane spent over twenty years in business administration roles in healthcare, wellness and information technology.
Ms. Kane’s previous positions include hospital and medical group leadership roles in addition to information services management. She concentrated on bringing information services to physicians as well as technology to restructure operations and improve the delivery and coordination of care for patients.
Ms. Kane graduated from the University of New Hampshire in Durham, New Hampshire with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. Following her graduation, she worked at Wang Laboratories and CBE Technologies, both in Massachusetts, and later joined Chest Medicine Associates in Maine. Ms. Kane also earned a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of New Hampshire in 2009. Ms. Kane’s most recent position prior to joining Virginia Hospital Center was Vice President of Physician Practice Management at Lawrence and Memorial Hospital in Connecticut and was responsible for the management and operations of L + M Medical Group’s over 150 providers in 20 different medical specialties in multiple locations.
Ms. Kane is a Fellow with the American College of Healthcare Executives and a Certified Medical Practice Executive with The American College of Medical Practice Executives.
Director, Network Development
Kristen Peifer joined Virginia Hospital Center in 2005 as Director of Public Relations and moved into Network Development for the Virginia Hospital Center (VHC) Physician Group in 2013. Her focus is on VHC Physician Group growth and expansion, business development, marketing and communications, and digital strategies. She has over 17 years of corporate communications experience and is a graduate of Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia.
Director of Physician Services Recruitment
Andrea Bell joined Virginia Hospital Center in 2017 as a Senior Physician Recruiter. She graduated magna-cum-laude with a B.A. degree in Psychology and joins VHC with over 10 years of combined experience in HR Recruitment, Customer Service, Healthcare and Management. Most recently, Andrea served as the Manager of Physician, mid-level and staff recruitment at a hospital system in Northern Virginia.
Ashleigh Fotenos joined Virginia Hospital Center in 2014 and has six years of experience in Healthcare Recruitment. She has a B.A. in Communications from Christopher Newport University. At VHC, she has experience recruiting for Physicians, mid-level positions, nursing, management, IT and support staff.
