Biography
Dr. Gil Ascunce has been happily practicing medicine for nearly 40 years.
He obtained his Bachelor of Arts from Catholic University in Washington, DC, then his medical degree at the University of Salamanca in Spain. Upon return from Europe, Dr. Ascunce completed his medical residency in Internal Medicine at DC General/Georgetown Medical Service in Washington DC. He went on to specialize in Gastroenterology at State University of New York (SUNY) in Buffalo, New York. He has been a solo practitioner in Arlington, VA since 1978, and now serves as Medical Director of VHC Physician Group’s Gastroenterology practice. A native from Cuba, Dr. Ascunce is fluent in Spanish and French.
Dr. Ascunce is a very active member of the community. He established the Nutrition Committee at Virginia Hospital Center in 1980 and acted as the Chairman since its institution. He is an Assistant Professor Medicine at Georgetown University and has been involved with this program since he began his practice. He serves as consultant for the Arlington Free Clinic in Gastroenterology.
