Brachytherapy

Brachytherapy is also commonly called “seed implantation”. It is a type of radiation treatment for prostate cancer. It is performed in the operating room under anesthesia. Radioactive pellets (“seeds”) are placed into the prostate through needles using transrectal ultrasound guidance. The radioactivity typically dissipates several weeks after implantation but the seeds themselves will remain in the prostate forever.
