The Urolift® System

Overview

The Urolift® System offers a novel tool to manage benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Urolift is a way for patients to avoid other more invasive treatments for BPH, including major surgery or ongoing medication. Unlike other procedures involving the prostate, the Urolift procedure does not require heat or destruction of prostate tissue.
Dr. Andrew Joel with VHC Physician Group – Urology has had two years of experience with the Urolift System, making Virginia Hospital Center one of the first hospitals in Northern Virginia to offer the procedure.

Benefits

The Urolift System has many benefits, including the following:

    • Its of the few procedures that has no effect on sexual function.
    • The procedure helps patients get off medications for BPH.
    • The recovery period is fast and easy.
    • Patients experience shorter periods with blood in their urine.
    • The procedure can be done without a catheter.

Procedure

One of the tiny implants of the Urolift System, used to increase flow in the urethra.

The Urolift System is an minimally invasive, outpatient procedure that only lasts ten to fifteen minutes. The procedure itself is involves the placement of tiny implants that are used to hold open the pathway that is blocking urine flow. These implants open up blocked channels in the prostate, and provide fast symptom relief from those suffering from BPH.
Patients are able to go home the same day.
