Sarosh Zafar, MD, a plastic and reconstructive surgeon, has joined the VHC Physician Group. A native of Pennsylvania, Dr. Zafar received her bachelor’s in science degree from Villanova University where she graduated with summa cum laude honors. She then went on to receive her medical degree from Drexel University College of Medicine, where she also completed a full residency in general surgery. She then completed her residency in plastic surgery at Houston Methodist Hospital in The Texas Medical Center, followed by a fellowship in microsurgery at the University of California, San Francisco. “My advanced training took me all over the country,” says Dr. Zafar. “It has helped me evaluate surgical problems and solutions from many different viewpoints.”
Dr. Zafar is involved in several professional organizations, including AMA, ACS, the Association for Women Surgeons of ACS, the Texas Society of Plastic Surgeons and the Houston Society of Plastic Surgeons.
Free flap breast reconstruction surgery is a particular area of interest for Dr. Zafar. “Breast reconstruction is my passion,” says Dr. Zafar. “For me, it’s been an incredibly rewarding and satisfying field.” In this intricate microsurgery procedure, tissue from the lower abdomen is disconnected from its blood supply, transferred to the chest, and reconnected to a new blood supply to create a breast. The result of free flap breast reconstruction is a more natural look and feel for the patient, as well as one that ages more naturally.
In addition to free flap breast reconstruction surgery, Dr. Zafar has extensive experience in implant based reconstruction. “An individualized approach to care for every one of my patients is important to me.” says Dr. Zafar. “Our whole team works with our patients to find the right surgery for the right patient at the right time.”
Dr. Zafar joined Virginia Hospital Center Physician Group in 2016, and is currently accepting new patients.
