Sarah Boutwell, MD received her Bachelor of Arts in Biology from the University of Chicago in 2004. She went on to graduate from the University of Alabama at Birmingham with a Masters of Science of Public Health in 2007, before attending medical school at the same university. She completed both her internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Saint Louis University in Missouri.
Since residency, Dr. Boutwell has worked as an Internist in Saint Louis for five years. While in Missouri, she received the Best Doctors award from Saint Louis Magazine in 2017 and 2018. She moved to the DC area in July 2019 and joined VHC Physician Group – Primary Care Arlington.
Dr. Boutwell is committed to providing high quality care with compassion, empathy and respect. She has a cooperative approach to patient care, and enjoys working with her patients to achieve their overall health goals. She emphasizes creating long lasting relationships with her patients, and strives to help patients to not only treat their illnesses, but to understand each of them as a whole person.
Dr. Boutwell has a particular clinical interest in preventative care, diabetes, women’s care, and geriatric care. She is a member of the American College of Physicians.
Outside of work, Dr. Boutwell enjoys cooking, exercising, hiking, and spending time with her husband, Tom.
