Biography

Marilyn Nguyen, MD received her Bachelor’s Degree from Duke University in 2002, graduating on the Dean’s list. After college, Dr. Nguyen attended University of Texas – Southwestern for Medical School where she graduated in 2006. During her time in Medical School, she received the Hudson Penn Award for the most outstanding surgery student, and was a member of the AOA society. She went on to complete her residency at Baylor College of Medicine in 2012, and afterward was a Microsurgical Breast Reconstruction Fellow at Mercy Medical Center in Baltimore, Maryland.

Dr. Nguyen remained in Baltimore for two years after completing her fellowship, working as a Plastic Surgeon at Mid-Atlantic Permanente Medical Group. She moved to the DC area to work for MAPMG in 2015. In 2017 she served as Chief of Department for Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at MAPMG, before joining the VHC Physician Group in the fall of 2018.

Dr. Nguyen has a personal, individualized approach to patient care, and values an attention to detail. She always tries to tailor procedures to fit what is both medically best for the patient, and what suits each patient’s individual goals and life situation. She has a particular clinical interest in all methods of breast reconstruction, including implant-based and autologous/DIEP flap reconstruction.

Dr. Nguyen is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and the American Society for Reconstructive Microsurgery. She is fluent in English and conversational Vietnamese, and is currently accepting new patients.

Outside of work, Dr. Nguyen enjoys hiking, diving, and spending time with her husband, family and two dogs.
