Dr. Lynsey Owen was born in Maryland and went to Muhlenberg College in Allentown, Pennsylvania, where she studied biology and English and captained the college’s Division III women’s lacrosse team. Prior to leaving Muhlenberg, she was honored with a commission by the United States Air Force as a part of the Health Professions Scholarship Program. Dr. Owen then attended Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia. While at Drexel, she received the Departmental Award for Overall Excellence in Obstetrics and Gynecology, the Eva Fernandez Fox Award for Personal Integrity, Stability, Responsibility, and Loyalty to the College of Medicine, and was inducted into Alpha Omega Alpha, the medical honor society.
Dr. Owen moved to Boston to complete her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC). During her time at BIDMC, she had an academic appointment as a clinical fellow at Harvard Medical School and received multiple teaching and research awards.
After graduating from residency, Dr. Owen transitioned to active duty status in the Air Force and was stationed at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland. During her four years at Andrews, she also performed deliveries and surgical procedures at MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center and Fort Belvoir Community Hospital. She is proud of the significant contributions she made to the OB/GYN department through her work on the Perinatal Safety Committee. Dr. Owen is Board Certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecologists.
While she was very honored to serve in the Air Force, Dr. Owen made the decision that separation from the military would be best for her family at this juncture, and she is very happy to be joining the team at Arlington Women’s Center. Her professional interests include comprehensive obstetric care, adolescent gynecology, and patient safety initiatives. She is a regular contributor to You and Your Family; her articles can be found in the print magazine and online. Outside of work, Dr. Owen enjoys spending time with her husband and young son, playing with her boxer dog, running, and reading for pleasure.
